Remploy plan gets local backing
20th September 2007
Proposals put forward by Trade Unions, Remploy management and workers have been given the backing of their constituency MP and AM. Adam Price and Rhodri Glyn Thomas have pledge their support to what they describe as an excellent business plan that would ensure that the local community is protected and future job opportunities are secured in a realistic, economically viable enterprise.
Adam Price MP said:
“I have met with workers to discuss these excellent proposals. I have written to Bob Warner, Chief Executive of Remploy, calling for these plans to be put into practice. The plans will combine a training facility as well as keeping the manufacturing base that is already at the site. I have also written to Peter Hain to ensure that if Remploy do not give these plans their backing he steps in both as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Wales.”
Adam added:
“These proposals do everything the Remploy group have asked. The consultation process is due to come to an end on November 12th and I hope that the plan put forward by the Trade Unions and the Remploy management locally is given the support it needs to be carried through. It is important that the factory’s future is secured and the values of Remploy are maintained in the area.”
