Remploy Pay Cut Angers Local Representatives
Carmarthen East and Dinefwr’s local MP and AM have spoken out at the treatment of Remploy workers in Brynaman and Ystradgynlais. Adam Price and Rhodri Glyn Thomas have made the statement after it emerged that workers would effectively be receiving a pay cut if they were to accept relocation in the event of the existing sites closing.
Adam Price MP said:
“The workers are being told that there will be no forced redundancies, that their jobs have been safeguarded. Yet they are also being told that no matter how much they currently earn they will only be offered basic wage at the Baglan site. For those workers at Brynaman and Ystradgynlais that have worked for years to get pay rises this will mean a pay cut in addition to the extra travel and inconvenience. An inconvenience that for some will be too much to continue in employment.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM added:
“It is quite appalling that workers who have shown such commitment to the Remploy business are being treated with such disregard in return. How can the company seriously justify forcing a productive workforce to shut up shop and accept a lower wage.”
