Private Car Parking Agreement Angers Local MP
Local MP Adam Price has hit out at Carmarthenshire NHS Trust after it emerged his constituents that are patients at Glangwili hospital would not benefit from the Welsh Assembly Government’s decision to scrap hospital car parking charges. The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP said the Trust had shown short-sightedness in signing up to a public contract that will last until 2018.
Adam Price MP said:
“Scrapping hospital car parking charges is fantastic news for Wales. It is great to see that the One Wales Government has followed through on this Assembly commitment. However as a result of Carmarthenshire NHS Trust’ decision enter into a long term agreement with a private company many of my constituents will continued to be charged when they require treatment.”
Adam added:
“These charges affect not only those in need of treatment but also their friends and families who make the trip to the hospital to visit. It is a tax on the sick and I am very disappointed that whilst other people in Wales will be able to park at their local hospital for free the decision by Carmarthenshire NHS Trust to set up a private agreement means people in the county will not have the luxury.”
