Local MP Urges Corus to retain work at Llandybie

Managing Directors of Corus have been urged to keep work at the Llandybie profile and panels plant by the areas local MP.  Adam Price has met with management of the company in support of the unions bid to propos retaining work at the site for the next 18 – 24 months.  Workers are currently undergoing a 90 day negotiation period over redundancies but the Carmarthen East MP hopes that keeping work at the plant will allow the structure to remain in place to secure employment in the long term.

Adam Price MP said:

“I have been in touch with union representatives who have outlined their hopes to retain work at the plant over the next 18 months.  The aim is to ensure that the plants structure is retained to allow a long term plan for a viable future for employment at the site to be secured.

When meeting with the managing directors I was keen to highlight the important role Corus has played in the Llandybie community.  Obviously it would be a major blow to the village if the work was completely outsourced and I have urged them to look at the union’s alternative proposals.”

Adam added:

“If any employment can be retained at the Llandybie plant, be that in the short term or the long term, it would be a major boost, especially in this current economic climate.  The workers are experienced and skilled and I am sure the company would benefit in the long run if they can retain quality staff.”
