Local AM and MP fight for post offices in County
Adam Price MP and Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM have taken the fight to retain vital post office services in the county to the Director of Post Watch to try and ensure that Carmarthenshire residents are not left without a local provision. In a letter the pair outlined their opposition to the plans and specifically drew the director’s attention to areas where the removal of the local post office would leave villagers with a number of miles to travel to post a letter.
Adam Price MP said:
“It is important that we can make the case for local post offices early. I have been in dialogue with Royal Mail officials and have now contacted post watch to try and ensure that the post offices that have been in contact with my office are given every opportunity to stay open. Some of the provisions, such as the post office in Rhandirmwyn and Dryslwyn are vital not only for local businesses but for the whole community aspect.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM added:
“We are hoping that by making the case early we are able to ensure that some of the post offices are spared from going on the chopping block. The case to keep a rural post office open, especially when that facility is also the local shop and the heart of the community is a very compelling one, and I hope that post watch and the Royal Mail take the wider social aspects on board when making their decisions.”
