Factory closure will be devastating blow to the Amman Valley
Local politicians have hit out at the decision to keep the Brynaman factory on the Remploy closure list. Adam Price MP and Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM were speaking after 15 factories were taken off the list whilst Brynaman still faces closure under the Westminster Government’s plans. The areas local AM and MP say the decision to push forward with the closure despite the local management, trade unions and workers putting forward an excellent counter proposal is unacceptable.
Adam Price MP said:
“I am extremely disappointed that the decision has been taken to leave the Brynaman factory on the closure list. The counter proposals put forward by the trade unions, local management, local authority’s and workers presents a compelling case for ensuring the factory in Brynaman not only remains open, but also becomes a state of the art training facility. Peter Hain has the ultimate responsibility and it would be devastating to the Brynaman area if the secretary of state for Wales was to force through plans that would be a devastating blow to the Amman Valley.”
Adam Price added:
“I sincerely hope that the Government in Westminster do not ignore the needs of the Remploy workers in Brynaman. The opposition to these plans from the local community and trade unions is very strong. Adam and I will continue to support the workers in this matter. We have fought off previous attempts to shut the factory and we will always fight for the jobs at Brynaman.”
