Privitisation of home care
Today Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and I will be joining care workers and Unions on a demonstration against Carmarthenshire County Council’s decision to privatise the home care services in the County. We have been working very hard alongside the dedicated care staff to highlight this issue.
The care staff in Carmarthenshire are some of the most committed you could hope for. They have regularly gone above and beyond the call of duty. There are great fears that the proposals put forward by the Labour/Independent Administration at the council will lead to a reduction in the quality of care provided and working conditions. Care Staff Campaign Against Privitisation
The decision by the Labour-led council to privatise the home care services in Carmarthenshire has been met with fierce opposition. I attended a rally on Friday with my colleague Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM. Care staff and UNISON were protesting in Ammanford town centre against the proposals and had a lot of support.
The people of Carmarthenshire have been great in getting behind the campaign. I must salute the courage of the care workers who have stood up against these proposals with such dignity and determination. I will be backing the care workers in the demonstrations at the end of the months and throughout April.

Make Fair Trade Your Habit
I have been supporting the “Make Fair Trade your Habit” campaign. I am extremely proud that Ammanford in my constituency was Wales’s first Fair trade town. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the town’s status. Promoting fair trade products is very important and I was delighted to be able to take part in an event in my constituency recently where I joined local school children and dedicated campaigners. I am delighted that Ammanford is leading the way on this important issue.
